4TH OF JULY FESTIVITIES

The days festivities started off with the annual Rose Valley Borough 4th of July parade. The South Media Fire Company showed up in force and as ussual was a big hit with the crowd. Thanks to everyone who showed up. The evening festivities started with the annual 4th of July dinner at the station which was followed by some legal ground affects which like the past couple of years were a big hit with the neighborhood. A great time was had by all and we look forward to next year.

This week for training, the members finally got to do some cutting on the old school bus that was donated from Elwyn Inc. It was very informative to see just how these busses are made and we got to see first hand how tiring it can be to have to cut open a bus.

This week for training, the South Media Fire Company headed to the Victoria Mills office complex to do our yearly drafting practice. Engine 51-2 drafted water out of Crum Creek using the floating strainer and hard suction hoses. Engine 51-2 then sent the water to Engine 51-1 which had the deck gun and numerous hand lines flowing. Driver trainees got some needed pump time during the exercise and others got some hand line time.

This morning the members of the South Media Fire Company received some sad news. Chief Cris Hansen (14-9) of the Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association passed away. On behalf of the officers and members of the South Media Fire Company we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Cris's family as well as the Officers and Members of Station 14. Rest in Peace Chief. You will be greatly missed not only in Swarthmore but the entire County.

 
   
 
NEW UTILITY

The new utility 51-8A was delivered this morning from Lancaster Truck Bodies. The truck needs to have the radios, lights, stipes and lettering put on it but it should be in service soon.

 
   
   
 
BUSY DAY DUE TO STORM

Today the South Media Fire Company was busy with numerous calls for trees and wires down due to high winds from a storm going through the area. One tree landed on a truck on Beatty Raod. There were no injuries.

This week for training, the members went over some confined space practices. We went over entry permits, air packs, air monitoring equipment, lock out tag out equipment and how to get fresh air into the confined space. *pictures coming soon*

ACCIDENT WITH ENTRAPMENT IN UPPER PROVIDENCE

Today at 1532 hours, the South Media Fire Company was dispatched to assist the Rose Tree Fire Company on an accident with entrapment on Providence Road on the overpass for Route 1. Upon arrival the crew from South Media assisted Rescue 73 personnel with patient removal and scene and hazard control. Patient was extricated in a short time and units went available.

NETHER PROVIDENCE POLICE SERGEANT LOST

It is with great sadness that the South Media Fire Company announces the loss of our brother and friend, Sergeant Tom Six. Rest easy brother. Sergeant Six was a highly decorated police officer who received numerous professional awards. He was a member of the Mountain Bike Unit, Delaware County Narcotics Unit, Blue Knights Motorcycle Unit and Delaware County Emergency Response Team. After beginning his career as a part-time patrol officer for two years with the Brookhaven Police Department, he has served as a sergeant with the Nether Providence Police Department for the past 13 years. Sergeant Six was past president and a member of Delaware County Emerald Society and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 27. He was a Notre Dame football fan who loved going to Eagles games. Sergeant Six enjoyed riding his motorcycle and loved spending time with his family and friends, but his main focus was his daughter. Survivors: Wife, Cynthia Helen Six; daughter, Emma Nicole Six of Middletown Township; sister, Jeanine Marchewski of Harleysville, Pa.; father, Thomas E. Six of Harleysville. Mass: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Mary Magdalen Church, 2400 N. Providence Road, Media. Visitation: 9:30-11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial: Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple Township. Contributions: Emma Nicole Six Trust Fund, c/o Citadel Federal Credit Union, 4809 Edgmont Avenue, Brookhaven, PA 19015.
