South Media Fire Company will be taking part in Nether Providence Family Fun Day again this year. The event will be held at Strath Haven Middle School from 1:00 to 4:00 on Saturday, September 10th. We’ve participated the last few years and always have a great time. Come out, meet your all-volunteer fire fighters, and maybe think about joining us!
Drill tonight continued our focus on vehicle rescue training. We simulated an accident with entrapment where we needed to remove the doors in order to safely extricate the victim. We also looked at different techniques for cutting a steering wheel and brake pedals out of the way in order to disentangle a victim. These are very important skills to know and be proficient at, especially with the stretch of I-476 that SMFC is responsible for covering. Please be safe out there.

Volunteers reviewed the equipment on the new engine at training last night. Each piece of equipment must be maintained and ready for service. Each firefighter must know where and how it is stored, what and how it is used, and how to restore it for service.
Carey Corson was voted “Firefighter Of The Year” for 2015 by the SMFC membership. Carey puts in an incredible amount of work as the Chief Engineer, and can always be counted on to show up and get his crew to the scene safely.
